Council Reports given at the San Francisco Senatus 115th Meeting, September 12th, 2013

1) San Jose Comitium: The Comitium hosted the Year of Faith Conference at Our Lady of Peace Shrine. A topic of one of the Patricians meetings was Vatican II Documents.  Recruiting is ongoing at Our Lady of Peace, and twice a week they set up a table to recruit new members and sign people up for Perpetual Adoration.  A book barrow was held at Valley Fair Mall.  The Comitium is helping with the PPC at Our Lady of Refuge Church.  A Rosary Crusade is planned for downtown San Jose next year.  Three junior praesidia are thriving and it is hoped that another will be established.  A day of recreation and reflection is being planned for the juniors. 2) North West Coast Korean Comitium: Br. Anselmo gave a report on behalf of the Comitium.  They continue to grow and expand.  There are now 5 Curiae attached with a total of 418 active members in 48 praesidia.  The Tri-Valley Curia is being established.  Br. Perlas asked that we all learn from the efforts of the Korean Legionaries.  Br. Anselmo stated that the Legion of Mary is very strong in Korea.  (Report by Br. Anselmo)

3) North San Mateo Curia: The Legion is being established at All Souls Parish under the guidance of the pastor.  An evangelization weekend was held at Good Shepherd Parish and 696 homes were visited.  Follow up calls include enrollment in Christian Faith Formation and RCIA, marriage validation cases, infant baptisms and possible conversions to the Catholic Faith.  A junior praesidium has been revived and gave its first annual report, as did two other junior praesidia. Thirty-five attended a retreat at St. Clare’s. (Report by Sr. Perlas, President)

4) Daly City-Colma Curia: They have 8 senior and one junior praesidia and a total of 105 active and 820 auxiliary members.  Attendance at Council meetings is 80%.  They engage in many works of evangelization including door-to-door visitation, prison ministry, Pilgrim Virgin visits, apostolate to the crowd and book barrow.  There is a Patricians’ group, which averages 15 in attendance.  A retreat is planned for junior members.(Report by Sr. Tessie Velicaria)

Sr. McManus reports that the Concilium correspondents meeting had as an important topic, the continuing reports of the new Family Legion Praesidium, which is supported by SF Senatus.

Senatus Apostolate to the Crowd: 11 Legionaries participated at the BART Station and 7 Legionaries participated in the Tenderloin.

Book Barrow at UN Plaza Farmers’ Market: Br. Pasion reported that three Legionaries worked at the UN Plaza Farmers’ Market.  A man was invited to St. Patrick’s and St. Boniface’s, two nearby churches.  (Report by Br. Pasion, Chairperson)

Peregrinatio Pro Christo: Br. Marten said that 8 Legionaries are planning to work the whole week at Our Lady of Refuge Church in San Jose.  The parish is grateful to the Legion for undertaking this apostolate.

Rosary Rally:  The Rosary Rally will take place on Saturday, October 12 at noon at United Nations Plaza, San Francisco.  This is sponsored by the Archdiocese with the help of the Legion of Mary.  Flyers will be available in all parishes.

Year of Faith Conference:  The Year of Faith Conference took place on August 10 at Our Lady of Peace Shrine in Santa Clara on August 10.  All agreed that it was a wonderful event.  Br. Perlas said the conference is a way for members in a wide area to stay connected and we will do it again next year.

Visitors from the Diocese of Baker, Oregon: Brother Perlas welcomed visitors Deacon Gustavo Ruiz and his wife, Eva, from the Diocese of Baker, Oregon.  They are spending several days in the area to learn more about the Legion of Mary.  Deacon Ruiz has been asked by the Bishop of the diocese to promote the Legion of Mary throughout the diocese, especially among the Spanish speaking.  He asked for prayers for their efforts to establish the Legion for Our Lady.

Below, an excerpt from Porta Fidei - Emeritus Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and
proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person.
It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year began on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.
