Below, Senatus Council Reports for May, 2012, 99th Senatus Meeting

1) Stockton Comitium: There are 13 attached Praesidia, including two Junior Praesidia, with a total of 140 active members, and 900 auxiliary members. There are two Curia - Modesto Curia, with seven Praesidia, and Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit Curia, in South San Joaquin county, with six Praesidia. The geographic area of each Curia was defined by the Comitium. Works undertaken by the Comitium include book barrow, door-to-door, CCD, RCIA, and prison ministry, and the average attendance at Comitium is 70%. A new Spanish Praesidium was formed at the Cathedral. The Comitium sponsored a booth at the annual three day Asparagus Festival, manned by senior and junior legionaries. Two thousand Rosaries were given out, and pamphlets and literature about the Catholic faith. Many were encouraged in their faith, or to join the Church. The Diocese of Stockton is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the theme "Ever Young in Christ", and the Comitium will work to bring young members into the Legion.  (Report by Sr. Ruelas, President, and read at Senatus by Sr. Symkowick, Correspondent)

2) Idaho Comitium: A new President and Vice President have been elected, and the Acies was held on March 24th. Two Reports: 1) Our Lady of Guadalupe, with 15 active members and and 11 auxiliaries (The Correspondent suggested that the Annual Report Form be translated into Spanish for Our Lady of Guadalupe).   2) Our Lady of Tears, with 8 active and 46 auxiliaries. Our Lady of Tears works with RCIC, the Rite of Christian Initian for Children, and also organized two healing Masses. Finally, a new Praesidium is being formed at St. Mary's Church.
(Report by Sr. Peterson, Correspondent)

3) Anchorage Comitium: An outstanding Acies was held on March 24th, at the Cathedral. Comitium Attendance is 75%, and there are four senior, and one junior Praesidia, with 40 active members and 320 auxiliary members. Several Praesidia are being formed in Anchorage, and a Spanish speaking Praesidium is in Fairbanks, assisted by the local English speaking Praesidium. The House of Gold Korean Curia has five Praesidia, with 45 active and 39 auxiliary members. The Comitium President reports that there is a language communication problem, and so the Comitium would like the House of Gold to be supervised by the Northern California Korean Comitium. (Br. Perlas will inquire and assist in this effort). (Report by Sr. Velicaria, correspondent)

4) Sacramento Comitium: Prayers are requested for Msgr. Kavanaugh, Comitium Spiritual Director, who took ill during Mass, and was rushed to a hospital. The Comitium has eleven attached Praesidia. The newly elected President of the North Area Curia gave his report at the April meeting, and the Solano Curia Report was given. A Tongan Praesidium has opened their ranks to all nationalities. A persistent issue with Sacramento is the contacting of auxiliaries by phone or email, because of the large area involved. This may be done, but should be followed up with a home visit, when possible. The Comitium President praised the persistence and courage of the Servant of God, Alfie Lambe, as an example for all Legionaries, especially during door-to-door visitation. (The Legion prayer to Alfie Lambe, along with the prayers to Frank Duff, and Edel Quinn, are on the back of the monthly News Notes).
(Report by Br. Santa Maria, President, and read by Sr. DiVincenzi, correspondent)

5) North Utah Curia: There are four attached Praesidia. New officers were appointed for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Praesidium.
Several deacons have been attending the Curia meeting, for which the members are grateful.

Below, an excerpt from Porta Fidei - Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and
proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person.
It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.
