(Archived News Notes and Web Site)

A) Praesidia Reports: Our Lady of Palestine,of St. Thomas More Parish:  After speaking with Fr. Bernard, Spiritual Director, Br. Perlas learned that the group has made the final decision to continue all their good works, but will no longer be affiliated with the Legion of Mary. There was no other Praesidium Report for July.

B) Council Reports from all around the Senatus

1) Portland Curia, Our Lady of the Northwest Curia (Reported by Br. Ray Frost, Correspondent)
This Curia has four attached praesidia and four more new praesidia being formed.  Extension activity continues where the Legion does not exist.  Pastors are being approached to see if they would agree to the establishment of the Legion of Mary in their parishes.  They are planning for their annual Legion of Mary retreat in September.  The Curia is also preparing to undertake Apostolate to the Crowd.  They are working with St. Paul Apostolate for Street Evangelization using their materials. There are no other Council Reports for this month.

Note: Br. Cook's letter from Concilium is not posted this month, pending his decision to publish on the web.

A note about all Senatus Archived Council Reports: The reports must be approved at the following monthly meeting, so that means that they will be 1&1/2 to 2 months late, before publishing on the SF Senatus Web that Archived reports reflect the minutes as stated at the given month's meeting.

Other Concerns

Pro-Life Apostolate: Legionaries are encouraged to come on mornings between 8:00 and 11:00 am to the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, 1650 Valencia Street in San Francisco (near St. Luke's Hospital).
A reminder (from Concilium), that Legion work requires Legionaries to evangelize all (every passerby), and that Legionaries should work some distance away from Abortion Clinics. The point is, to be far enough away to allow a neutral zone, so that Pro Choice individuals (and anyone else) can be approached and evangelized without the combatative circumstances sometimes found in front of Abortion Clinics.
Pro Life Website              40 Days for Life Facebook

Risk and Liability Waiver: The original signed copy for each member should remain with the praesidium’s vice president.  A copy of the signed copy for each member should be given to the Council Vice-President.  Br. Williams noted that the signing of the waiver is the least we can do.  By following the rules of our organization we are also more able to be protected by the laws governing volunteers.  We also want to have practical safety procedures.

Other Matters: Brother Perlas announced that a Book Barrow Chairperson is needed.  Subscriptions to Maria Legionis were encouraged.  Subscription envelopes are available after the meeting.

Pope Francis' Prayer for the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: "If you knew the gift of God!"

You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.

We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.
Below, an excerpt from Porta fide - Emeritus Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith.
The Legion of Mary will continue their ongoing efforts at Evangelization, which remains the central work of the Legion.
If you are a Catholic and want to help your Church, please join the Legion of Mary.
