Remarks From Br. Andrew Cooke, the new Concilium Correspondent to San Francisco Senatus

Letter, Dated June 26th, 2015
(The Most Current Correspondence to Date)

Br. Cooke wrote: “We advise that you should give one month’s notice of Senatus elections in your Senatus agendas…It is very good that the Legionaries of Mother of God Praesidium gave Miraculous Medals to young children and that the Legionaries teach catechism.”

a) Election for President of Senatus: Br. Ando Perlas was elected Senatus President for a second term. Thanks to him for his hard work and dedication in leading the Senatus.

b) Apostolate to the Crowd: Eight Legionaries worked at the 24th St. apostolate. They contacted many families with children. A couple who has been met a couple of times on the monthly apostolate congratulated the Legionaries for their work. Some of the Legionaries were unable at first to find the apostolate group leader but they prayed and began to work without any of the usual supplies of rosaries and miraculous medals, until eventually meeting up with the leader and obtaining supplies. At Eddy and Jones Streets eight Legionaries worked. It was a night of special events in the surrounding area. Legionaries were steadfast in working and contacting many people. They comforted a lady whose children are not treating her well and gave her rosaries for her children. (Report by Br. Wehrmeister, Chairperson)

c) Rosary Rally: The Rosary Rally will be on October 10 at United Nations Plaza, after a Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral presided by Archbishop Cordileone. The National Pilgrim Virgin Statue will be at the rally. Br. Perlas stated that the custodian of the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue is well aware of the Legion of Mary and is grateful for the help of the Legion of Mary. The Pilgrim Virgin will also be at the Shrine of Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara on October 13.

d) Annual Day of Recollection: There were great talks by Fr. Propst. Br. Perlas asked that we encourage those who could not attend to try to make the day of recollection next year.

e) Santa Clara Conference: This will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Flyers are available after the meeting. The conference should be promoted by all Legionaries. A final estimate of attendees is due from praesidia by September 5.

f) Pro-life: Br. Konopaski and Sr. Lagowski, remind Legionaries that they can pray the Rosary at the Planned Parent Headquarters at 1650 Valencia Street in San Francisco (near St. Luke's Hospital)

Below, an excerpt from Porta fide - Emeritus Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith.
The Legion of Mary will continue their ongoing efforts at Evangelization, which remains the central work of the Legion. If you are a Catholic and want to help your Church, please join the Legion of Mary.
