Below, Senatus Council Reports for July, 2012, 101st Senatus Meeting

1) Rogue Valley Curia:  A new Secretary was elected at their May meeting. Fr. Liam Cary, Spiritual Director of Mother of the Church Praesidium, has been named the Bishop of the Diocese of Baker City, Oregon.   (Report by Sr. Lapuz, Correspondent)

2) Seattle Comitium: There are 9 curiae and 14 praesidia attached to the Comitium. A new Praesdium is being planned, and there is an evangelization project at Pike Place Market. Several praesidium reports show works such as prison visitation, outreach to the homeless and Pilgrim Virgin Apostolate.  Curia reports show visitation of catechumens, non-practicing Catholics, prisoners, and to the sick in their homes and assisted living facilities.  Br. Marten remarked on the impressive size of the Washington Comitium - for example, there are attached Curiae with 14 and 24 praesidia. (Report by Br. Marten, Correspondent)

3) South San Mateo Curia: In the last quarter they had three annual praesidium reports – (1) Mater Ecclesiae Praesidium, with 12 active and 148 auxiliary members; (2) a junior praesidium with 5 members; and (3) a new Spanish-speaking praesidium with 22 active and 15 auxiliary members.  The Spiritual Director of Mater Ecclesiae is almost always present at their meetings.  They participate in the prayers in front of Planned Parenthood; work in RCIA; and promote the DeMontfort Consecration.  A seminarian was a guest speaker at their auxiliary function.  The junior praesidium helped the senior praesidium with the book barrow, made rosaries, served Mass and sang Christmas Carols at residential care homes.  The new praesidium, Nuestra Senora del Tepeyac, leads the rosary before Masses, visits the sick and brings them Holy Communion, and teaches the rosary to people during home visitation.  The Curia’s Catholic Information Booth at the San Mateo County Fair was very successful.  (Report by Sr. Angeles, President)

4) Salinas Curia: They have five praesidia.  Our Lady of Lourdes Praesidium at the San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey has seven active members, two of whom are praetorians, and 59 auxiliary members.  They visit seven convalescent homes and a mental health facility.  They had several book barrows and teach CCD and assist in RCIA.  They will try to increase their door-to-door visitations and increase their membership.  Our Lady of Fatima Praesidium of Salinas has four active members, two praetorians and 84 auxiliary members.  They do door-to-door, pray outside Planned Parenthood, and bring Holy Communion to people in convalescent homes and to the homebound.  Also, they had a book-barrow at Northridge Mall.  Their goal is to recruit more active members and do more door-to-door visitation.

Below, an excerpt from Porta Fidei - Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and
proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person.
It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.
