The books will soon be audited.

Remarks From Br. Andrew Cooke, the new Concilium Correspondent to San Francisco Senatus

Date: February 11th, 2015 (The Most Current Correspondence to Date)

Br. Cooke writes: "My condolences on the death of Fr. Joe Arong... The visitation of the Northwest Coast Korean Comitium by
Br. and Sr. Perlas is noted...All Praesidia should study the parts of the Handbook on the Acies, and look into making or renewing the
Total Consecration to Mary...On the auditing of Treasurer's books: share your results with council officers. The Concilium Treasurer announces that copies of the audited accounts are available for inspection after their meeting. This may be imitated by other councils, and the copies returned to the treasurer, after those interested have checked it.  This can help others to learn how an audit is done

The new Concilium Correspondent to Senatus is Br. Andrew Cooke... Welcome, Br. Andrew

Sr. Maureen has been Concilium Correspondent to San Francisco Senatus since its inception in 2004, and is now ending her time as correspondent, but will continue her responsibility with several councils. The Legionaries of San Francisco Senatus thank Sr. Maureen for her work and helpful comments, and may Our Lady be with her and the Concilium.

Below: Monthly Local Reports from the San Francisco Senatus, 132nd Meeting, February 12th, 2014.

New Correspondence Office: 2748 Junipero Serra Blvd., Suite 21, Daly City, CA 94015.
Also, note the new Senatus phone number: 1-650-270-3317

a) The Archdiocesan statement (
on church teachings and practice in high schools, for the guidance of school teachers and staff). Archbishop Cordileone's statement correctly and rightly affirms the Catholic Catechism, and the right of Catholics to proclaim Catholic doctrine in Catholic schools, and why it must be taught in Catholic schools. The statement was released in April, 2015, and has resulted in Anti-Catholic remarks by Public Officials in San Francisco, as well as editorials very critical of Catholics in local newspapers. Legionaries should read the statement, and review the Catechism also.

b) Education and Support: Fr. Goode, the Senatus Chaplain, has spoken to a group of 500 students at San Francisco State University, on the
Church's teaching on marriage. Father also said that Catholics need to know about "Courage", an association of Catholics who have the same
sex attraction.

c) Extension: A Spanish Praesidium is being formed at Star of the Sea Parish

d) Apostolate to the Crowd: At Bart 24th & Mission, the pastor of St. Charles, Father Jimenez, spoke with the Legionaries. There was a discussion on how to help Spanish speaking Legionaries undertake more works of evangelization, for example, with the help of the Mission Excelsior Curia. Next followed the usual work with passersbys.
At the Tenderloin Apostolate, Eddy & Jones sts., eleven legionaries worked. They prayed with a lady who has a drinking problem, and gave out many Rosaries to many contacts. The Tenderloin neighborhood is now greatly improved, by the opening of Fr. Boedekker park, across the street from our meeting place. Young people now have a place to play in the evening.

e) A Proposed new Apostolate: A Legionary from Our Lady of Palestine Praesidium, suggested an Apostolate at the Ferry Building.

f) Pro-life Activities: Br. Perlas encouraged Legionaries to get involved with the 40 days for Life campaign, starting Ash Wednesday, Feb18th. Br. Ando suggested that each praesidium could sign up for one day, from 8 AM to 8 PM, to fill the allotted time. We can also recruit friends and fellow parishioners. Br. Perlas encouraged the online electronic sign up, for Pro-Life work....

h): The West Coast Walk for Life, 2015 (attended by around 60,000 people - see the home page). Many Legionaries also attended, as well as many young people. Legionaries passed out Catholic Radio cards, and had an apostolate which included speaking with pro-Abortion people.

i) Working with Children: Br. Perlas reminded members, that all Legionaries working with children need to follow the Archdiocesan Child protection policy, which includes required background checks, and fingerprinting.

j) The Legion of Mary Santa Clara Conference: Br. Perlas set a provisional date of September 19th, for the Conference.

k) Patrician's Meeting: Br. Palencia announced that the next Patricians meeting at St. Finn Barr's, on February 21st, will have "Exorcism" as the topic.

Below, an excerpt from Porta Fidei - Emeritus Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year began on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and concluded on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.
The Year of Faith has now officially concluded, but The Legion of Mary will continue their ongoing efforts at Evangelization, which remains the central work of the Legion. If you are a Catholic and want to help your Church, please join the Legion of Mary.
