Remarks From Br. Andrew Cooke, the new Concilium Correspondent to San Francisco Senatus

Letter, Dated April 3rd, 2015

(The Most Current Correspondence to Date)

Br. Cooke encouraged prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and commended the street contact work at 24th & Mission, and the Tenderloin. He stated that Concilium has chosen Canada, for the PPC from Ireland.... He endorsed Br. Perlas' request that all Legionaries working with children should follow the Archdiocesan policy on this matter, for example, the "Legion of Mary Safeguarding Policy", which is available for downloading on the Concilium website (see the link below). The Concilium has a Child Safeguarding Committee which oversees that all Irish Legionaries comply with the police vetting by the Dublin Archdiocese, and the other dioceses. Br. Cooke states: "It is very important that the Legion pays attention to child protection, and also when working with vulnerable adults. Indeed, our Legion handbook has guidelines for assigning work in pairs, rather than as single individuals, which is a safeguard that has always been there. But, let's also comply with our Diocesan requirements."

(A Request from Concilium): The Members of Our Lady of Sorrows Praesidium at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Seattle, WA, ask for prayer through the intercession of Frank Duff, for a miracle for Henry, a fourteen year old boy, who is suffering from a serious life threatening disease.

Below, an excerpt from Porta fide - Emeritus Pope Benedict urges us to publicly profess our faith: "Confessing with the lips indicates in turn that faith implies public testimony and commitment. A Christian may never think of belief as a private act. Faith is choosing to stand with the Lord so as to live with him. This “standing with him” points towards an understanding of the reasons for believing. Faith, precisely because it is a free act, also demands social responsibility for what one believes.

The Church on the day of Pentecost demonstrates with utter clarity this public dimension of believing and proclaiming one’s faith fearlessly to every person. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes us fit for mission and strengthens our witness, making it frank and courageous." With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith.
The Legion of Mary will continue their ongoing efforts at Evangelization, which remains the central work of the Legion. If you are a Catholic and want to help your Church, please join the Legion of Mary.
