Archived Allocutio of the San Francisco Senatus 103rd Meeting, September, 2012
Fr. Lawrence Goode
Spiritual Director of the SF Senatus

"Once again, we have to consider the attendance at the monthly Senatus - not enough officers are coming. We need to work together, and find ways to bring the officers to Senatus, for example, providing rides. It's hard for me to accept that members can't get to the Senatus meeting, when others who live farther away can make it - for example, I have to drive up from East Palo Alto, about 32 miles away, on a crowded commuter freeway. And today, my parish had no electricity, and I worked today - It was the first day of catechism classes, and all of the students got my blessing...

Archbishop Cordileone will be newly installed as Archbishop of San Francisco in October. He was also once Bishop of San Diego and Oakland, and was the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Calexico. Since that was a Spanish speaking parish, Archbishop Cordileone should enjoy coming to St. Francis of Assisi parish on October 7, and we plan to give him a lot of love - He will need it, being a Bishop in San Francisco....

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is tomorrow; the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is on Saturday, and there have been a lot of Marian Feasts in the last few weeks.  I would like to congratulate Br. Palencia for persevering with the praesidium here at St. Finn Barr. I started the first praesidium in this parish, as pastor. This happened after a visit from a Scottish Priest, Fr. Frank Jordan, who knew Frank Duff, and got help from him. Fr. Frank insisted that I start a Legion Of Mary Praesidium here -so that was due to the legacy of Frank Duff...

There is great hope for renewal with the new officers of the San Jose Comitium, congratulations to them...   The proposed new Curia in the North San Mateo Curia shows signs of vigorous life.  It inspires us to set high goals.  There are ups and downs – never lose hope."

The October 2009 Allocutio, given by Fr. Goode at the San Francisco Senatus of the Legion of Mary

(Quote from the June Allocutio, by Fr. Goode)

"The year of Faith, Porta Fide, declared by Pope Benedict, begins on October 11th, 2012. (This is two days prior to our Rosary Rally, which will be held in UN Plaza in San Francisco, on October 13th). The Porta Fide is the beginning of a new evangelization. Once again, I ask that you read the Pope's Apostolic Letter - [a link to his online document is here Porta Fidei and below on this page]. It is especially important for us to evangelize those who have abandoned the Faith, and walked away, and we know that this involves so many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We Legionaries must build bridges to those who have wandered away. I'd like to recommend some books, which will help in building bridges. One is Mathew Kelly's Rediscovering Catholicism, which is motivational, and the second is Catholicism, by Fr. Robert Barron, which explains the faith to intellectuals who have distanced themselves from the Church." Also, let me recommend another book on evangelization, by Diane Moczar, “Converts and Kingdoms.”

The Books recommended by Fr. Goode are available online at e.g.,, in both paperback and hardbound copies.

The Church in Ireland hosted the worldwide 50th International Eucharistic Congress

                                             June 10th to 17th, 2012, in Dublin,

Young people were especially invited and sought after.
The Theme was: The Eucharist: Communion with Christ, and with One Another
Also of great significance was A New Evangelization, particularly important for the renewal of the Church in Ireland.
The Legion of Mary played an important role in the last Dublin Eucharistic Congress, in 1932.
The size of a Eucharistic Congress can be judged by the fact that 3000 volunteers were needed for this event.
