Allocutio (October, 2009)
Fr. Lawrence Goode, Spiritual Director

“This is the month of the Rosary, Respect Life, and the Guardian Angels.  Also we had a big celebration on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, at my parish in East Palo Alto, which is named after him...
Glad to hear the 36th Annual Report from St. Patrick’s, and about their 11 members and Patrician group. You need a Spiritual Director, so don't give up.  If you do not have one, you need to keep looking.  Your combined knowledge and experience are like the bricks in a building, but you need a Priest to help you build the structure. That’s the thinking in the Handbook...
For Praesidia whose members work predominantly in the evening, and have trouble making the meeting, think about meeting in daytime.  Be creative!  You have to maintain your Praesidium.  I know it is not easy, but, for example, there are people coming from East Bay (a time consuming trip across the Bar Bridge), to attend a meeting in the city. If they can sacrifice an evening or morning, so can you.  Also, be ready to form another praesidium, if there are many members...I encourage the Oregon Comitium to do Door-to-Door evangelization to the un-churched.  And congratulations to the newly formed praesidium...
Also, Seattle must carry out their work and apostolate in some difficult situations. For example a law for Assisted suicide has been voted in.  We have to pray so that this will be repealed, and for the success of Seattle.
It is good to hear of the Congress in Salinas.  Congratulations!  I think when one does it the first time, it’s a big deal but if you do it again in two years, it would be a piece of cake.  It is one of the wonderful things the Legion does – you go over the Handbook, learning it again together...
South San Mateo has been busy, too.  Aside from their Congress, they have taken over the County Fair now for three years, continuing its successful outreach to large numbers of people...
Portland Curia is promoting the rosary, getting other people to pray and hopefully getting people into the Legion.
We thank the Lord and Our Blessed Mother for the many wonderful things going on in the Legion.”
The prayer below is one of Father Goode's favorites:

                                                         Prayer to Our Blessed Mother
                                                 “O Mary, you can’t say ‘I can’t’ because
you are the Mother of God,
                                                             You won’t say ‘I won’t’ because
                                                                     You are our Mother.
                                                                      So you will, won’t you?”

The monthly Joke, from a cartoon provided by Sr. Rose Symkowick:
The scene:   In a church, a priest in the pulpit, facing his congregation.
He's looking out at a sea of cell phones and Blackberries.
He says, “for those of you not on Twitter!
"Traditional Confessions will be available on Fridays from 5 – 6 p.m. ".
