Archived Allocutio of the San Francisco Senatus 109th Meeting, March 14th, 2013
Fr. Lawrence Goode
Spiritual Director of the San Francisco Senatus

"There have been signs of improvement in the Northern California Korean Comitium from one period to the next. And they are not the only non-English speaking Curia doing well. The San Jose Chinese Curia reaches to Millbrae and could be helpful among the Chinese speaking in SF.  The San Jose Vietnamese Curia could do the same for the Vietnamese in the Bay Area...
The new Pope was not well known, and we are just getting to know more about him.  We like his name and that he is from a Spanish speaking area, which is a recognition that the Church in the New World is more alive than in the Old World.  Our new Pope will be a true exemplar of the Vicar of Christ.  He cooks his own food, takes public transport, and likes to be with the poor and needy...
[and, we should also pray for Emeritus Pope Benedict, whose health is declining rapidly]
Regarding the New Evangelization there are many good things that are not being done.  Think and pray about how we can improve, and what we might do...Follow the example of great Legionaries, for example, Fr. McGrath, here at least two times in San Francisco, Fr. Bradshaw, Fr. Frederick Miller, and Fr. Matthew Koo, all heroes of the Legion of Mary...
Holy Week and Easter, which are coming up, are a good time to get our message across and reach out to hard cases.  The Feast of the Annunciation, and the Acies are very important.  In our parish, St. Patrick’s Day is also very important and so I would like to invite you to our parish, St. Francis of Assisi, in East Palo Alto, on his day."

(Quote from the June Allocutio, by Fr. Goode)

"The year of Faith, Porta Fide, declared by (Emeritus) Pope Benedict, begins on October 11th, 2012. (This is two days prior to our annual Rosary Rally, which will be held in UN Plaza in San Francisco, on October 13th). The Porta Fide is the beginning of a new evangelization. Once again, I ask that you read the Pope's Apostolic Letter - [a link to his online document is here Porta Fidei and below on this page]. It is especially important for us to evangelize those who have abandoned the Faith, and walked away, and we know that this involves so many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We Legionaries must build bridges to those who have wandered away. I'd like to recommend some books, which will help in building bridges. One is Mathew Kelly's Rediscovering Catholicism, which is motivational, and the second is Catholicism, by Fr. Robert Barron, which explains the faith to intellectuals who have distanced themselves from the Church." Also, let me recommend another book on evangelization, by Diane Moczar, “Converts and Kingdoms.  You can also read True Devotion online, Link, or, if you want to purchase the book, True Devotion, or for Kindle, Link     If you would like to purchase True Devotion in Spanish  Link.  *

The Books recommended by Fr. Goode are available online at e.g.,, in both paperback and hardbound

With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.

The Apostolic Letter on the Year of Faith, Porta Fidei, by Pope Benedict XVI, can be found online.
