Allocutio (March, 2010)
Fr. Lawrence Goode, Spiritual Director

Fr. Goode thanks all Senatus Members for their recent spiritual bouquet, and also thanks to Br. Marten for arranging the meeting with Bishop Sevilla. [At this meeting, the bishop of Yakima agreed that Legion Members were doing parish work, and hence do not have to take out an individual Insurance policy for each Praesidium. The Legion is grateful to Bishop Sevilla for this ruling.  Stringent Insurance requirements would tax the Legion out of existence]...
Fr. Goode smiled and asked if we knew about  the really big feast coming up, not quite as big as Easter or Christmas but... it’s St. Patrick’s Day!...
"Holy Week and Easter are great times for the Legion apostolate.  Even people long absent from the Church have memories of participating in Easter, so it's an ideal time to evangelize...
We as Legionaries have to project a different image to those who say the apostolate is dangerous.  We don’t want to do a disservice and fail those brave legionaries who have gone before us.  We’ve got to be forthright,  and proclaim who we are.  No other organization in the Church is doing what we do.  We work in high crime areas like the Tenderloin, but the hardest places to work are our own parishes.  Despite that, we find that people want to open their doors and welcome the Legion.  I invite people to come to the upcoming Apostolate to the Crowd at my parish of St. Francis of Assisi...
It’s great to hear from the praesidium at St. Paul, but immediate action needs to be taken, to get new members.  There is a long tradition of 56 years, going back to 1954, including Agnes Cassidy who was doing active legion work at age 101"...
Fr. Goode asked about the rosary crusade at San Jose.  Sr. Velicaria said that  groups of people pray as they proceed around an area. This interests bystanders, who come and talk to them, and so they get new Legion members...
"The new Chinese Curia is a great addition to Oakland Comitium and the Senatus, and will be very useful for evangelizing the Chinese community, and a good source for Chinese literature...
Perhaps there are other praesidia out there waiting to be discovered".
Fr. Goode commended the North San Mateo Curia for their efforts, and in his own Parish, said that the Stations of the Cross are held in five neighborhoods in East Palo Alto every Friday of Lent.  On Good Friday, University Avenue will be closed for the Stations of the Cross.  And everyone is invited on Saturday to St. Patrick’s Day at St. Francis.
Fr. Goode gave his blessing to all Senatus Members.
