Fr. Lawrence Goode
Spiritual Director of the SF Senatus

"The year of Faith, Porta Fide, declared by Pope Benedict, begins on October 11th, 2012. (This is two days prior to our Rosary Rally, which will be held in UN Plaza in San Francisco, on October 13th). The Porta Fide is the beginning of a new evangelization. Once again, I ask that you read the Pope's Apostolic Letter - [a link to his online document is below on this page]. It is especially important for us to evangelize those who have abandoned the Faith, and walked away, and we know that this involves so many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We Legionaries must build bridges to those who have wandered away. I'd like to recommend some books, which will help in building bridges. One is Mathew Kelly's Rediscovering Catholicism, which is motivational, and the second is Catholicism, by Fr. Robert Barron, which explains the faith to intellectuals who have distanced themselves from the Church." (Quote from last month, the June Allocutio, by Fr. Goode)

"This month, let me recommend another book on evangelization, by Diane Moczar, “Converts and Kingdoms.”  This book tells how the church converted an empire and how we can do it again. Ordinary people had great influence in the Roman Empire, and legions of amateur missionaries included slaves, soldiers and merchants. Because of their work, the church had reached as far as China by 86 AD.  Today, we need to challenge people with the New Evangelization, with our own Legion. We have here in our Senatus, the outstanding work done by Brother Marten as President, in the Apostolates, the PPCs, and, especially for the Rosary Rally. Now we have a elected a new President, Br. Perlas, who will continue this great work, in our Senatus, and also in our Praesidia. For example, I would like to hear more about the door-to-door visitation reported by the Holy Name praesidium. And we need steadfastness and tenacity. We need to visit one area of a parish and go back again and again.  Befriend young people and when they hear your stories they will be attracted to the Legion. And let us congratulate the Seattle Comitium and emphasize the importance of the work they are doing.  The seminarian who gave the recent talk to the Legion of Mary loves stressing the importance of our work. Now we also have many cultures which can benefit from the Legion. For example, Legionaries can remind local Chinese Catholics about the history of the great link between the Church in China and the Legion of Mary.  And all of us here in California are more aware of the needs of those immigrants from other nations. Recently a Vietnamese nurse saw my Tessera, and asked me to provide one in Spanish, for her Spanish speaking patients. That is an example of the good work that local Legionaries can provide."

The Church in Ireland hosted the worldwide 50th International Eucharistic Congress

                                             June 10th to 17th, 2012, in Dublin,

Young people were especially invited and sought after.
The Theme was: The Eucharist: Communion with Christ, and with One Another
Also of great significance was A New Evangelization, particularly important for the renewal of the Church in Ireland.
The Legion of Mary played an important role in the last Dublin Eucharistic Congress, in 1932.
The size of a Eucharistic Congress can be judged by the fact that 3000 volunteers were needed for this event.
