Archived Allocutio of the San Francisco Senatus 110th Meeting, April 11th, 2013
Fr. Lawrence Goode
Spiritual Director of the San Francisco Senatus

It is good to see Br. Simpson with us [The President of the Seattle Comitium - Br. flies down for Senatus, and flies back after. Since this is an 800 mile trip one way, it is a long day for him]. The Easter Season continues in the Year of Faith - The New Evangelization – that is what the Legion does, and knocking on doors has become the hallmark of the Legion...
Br. Perlas [Senatus President] has sent me his paper on the Legion and New Evangelization.  We are looking for collaboration with lots of organizations in the Church, and it would be great if the Legion of Mary could bring everyone together, like an orchestra.  For example, we could help the Knights of Columbus to develop material...
Let’s see how we can bring the Word of God to the people, especially to those with whom it is difficult to deal with.  A teenager wonders if the Bible can be true, since some people have same sex attraction.  We need to be able to explain what the Church teaches - Marriage is the only institution, which unites children with their mother and father.  We can give answers to why we believe and we must bring them to union with Our Lord, bring them to Jesus in a relationship of love, ask them to give themselves to Jesus Christ...
The work, which the Millers have done with the Spanish Curia, is marvelous.  The results are seen, even if they are spotty.  The Hispanics will keep coming, they need work.

(Quote from the June Allocutio, by Fr. Goode)

"The year of Faith, Porta Fide, declared by (Emeritus) Pope Benedict, begins on October 11th, 2012. (This is two days prior to our annual Rosary Rally, which will be held in UN Plaza in San Francisco, on October 13th). The Porta Fide is the beginning of a new evangelization. Once again, I ask that you read the Pope's Apostolic Letter - [a link to his online document is here Porta Fidei and below on this page]. It is especially important for us to evangelize those who have abandoned the Faith, and walked away, and we know that this involves so many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We Legionaries must build bridges to those who have wandered away. I'd like to recommend some books, which will help in building bridges. One is Mathew Kelly's Rediscovering Catholicism, which is motivational, and the second is Catholicism, by Fr. Robert Barron, which explains the faith to intellectuals who have distanced themselves from the Church." Also, let me recommend another book on evangelization, by Diane Moczar, “Converts and Kingdoms.  You can also read True Devotion online, Link, or, if you want to purchase the book, True Devotion, or for Kindle, Link     If you would like to purchase True Devotion in Spanish  Link.  *

The Books recommended by Fr. Goode are available online at e.g.,, in both paperback and hardbound

With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.

The Apostolic Letter on the Year of Faith, Porta Fidei, by Pope Benedict XVI, can be found online.
